A double vessel in semi-porous clay: two wide-bellied, tapered sides joined by a handle sturdy enough to carry it. The shape recalls the vessels that kept water cool in desert heat.
The zir is a Nubian water amphora, traditionally made in pairs and placed outside homes so passersby and travelers could drink.
